June 2011, Singapore – Harley-Davidson Motor Company officially opened its Asia Pacific Headquarters in Singapore on 19 May 2011 making it the first motorcycle company to base its Asia Pacific operations in Singapore.
Previously located in the company’s global headquarters in Milwaukee, USA, this move represents Harley-Davidson’s commitment to this region as well as to introduce the brand’s ideals of individuality and self expression to more customers here.
Opening new markets and expanding existing ones are part of its strategic growth plans. By 2014, it expects sales outside the US to exceed 40% where Asia Pacific region is key to achieving that goal. In 2010, sales from this region accounted for 9.4 % of its unit volume.
After the company’s inception in 1903, sales from Japan started as early as 1912 while Australia is home to the oldest community operating Harley-Davidson dealership outside of the US, and was established in 1918.
All new functions critical to development and support for the markets are represented in the Company’s new Asia Pacific headquarters including sales, marketing, dealer development and others, with 20 employees supporting its activities in countries across the region.
Helming the Asia Pacific office is David Foley who is the Vice President and Managing Director. With over fifteen years at Harley-Davidson, David will be responsible for sales, marketing and business development in the region and overseeing all functions and staff within direct markets, subsidiaries and representative offices. He will also lead a leadership team within the markets and at a regional level to ensure that the appropriate brand, product, staffing and organizational strategies are in place to position the company for long term growth in the region. He is also part of the company’s Global Sales Leadership team.
