18 January 2013, Kuala Lumpur – The Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Malaysia are dedicating 2014 to the “Visit Malaysia Year 2014″ (VMY 2014) and preparations to attract a targeted 28 million tourists to Malaysia next year and RM168 billion in tourist receipts by 2020.
Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak will officially launch the “Visit Malaysia Year 2014″ campaign on 19 January 2013 at Bukit Jalil Stadium during a three-day tourism carnival from today till 20 January 2013 to create awareness of the economic importance of VMY 2014 to Malaysians.
Visitors to the carnival can look forward to the simultaneous beating of 500 drums by various ethnic groups in Malaysia choreographed by Pak Ngah signifying the official launch of VMY 2014 by the Prime Minister.
Other Malaysian ministries are also participating in VMY 2014 including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture.
There will be exhibitions and bazaars to highlight Malaysia’s tourism products.
The tourism ministry recently introduced cycling and biking tourism across Malaysia and a bicycle and big bikes marquee will be set up with vendors showing their products and gears. Names such as Harley Davidson, Ducati, BMW and GIVI will be exhibited.
The tourism consumer exhibition features more than 200 booths featuring hotels, travel agents and tourism product operators.
Kids are not forgotten. There is a special Kid Zone which includes a 1Malaysia Food Court featuring popular local dishes across the country.
