Krispy Kreme fans! The news is out.  Singapore will get its first Krispy Kreme this October at Tangs Orchard.  You can finally sink your teeth to these delicious doughnuts anytime you want them without having to buy them in from overseas.

Krispy Kreme came about when Vernon Carver Rudolph first bought a doughnut shop in Paducah, Kentucky from a French chef from New Orleans in 1933.   In 1937, Krispy Kreme became a leading branded retailer and wholesaler of high-quality doughnuts, including its signature Hot Original Glazed.   There are currently some 310 Krispy Kreme factory stores and 85 satellites operating system wide in 43 U.S. States, Australia, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and the United Kingdom.

  • Krispy Kreme stores can produce more than 3 million doughnuts per day and make more than 1.3 billion doughnuts per year.
  • A typical Krispy Kreme store can produce more than 3,000 doughnuts per hour, but larger stores can produce up to 12,000 doughnuts per hour.
  • Krispy Kreme can produce enough doughnuts in about a week to make a line of doughnuts from New York City to Los Angeles.  Now that’s glazing the trail.
  • In about 22 seconds, Krispy Kreme stores can produce enough doughnuts to make a stack the height of the Empire State Building.
  • Krispy Kreme uses enough chocolate each year to fill nearly five Olympic-sized swimming pools and uses 1.3 million pounds of sprinkles.
  • Krispy Kreme can roast and blend approximately 1 million pounds of coffee a year – two times the weight of the Statue of Liberty.
  • Doughnuts trace their history to Dutch “fried cakes,” which were brought to America by early Dutch settlers.  The cakes had nuts embedded in their centers, and early Americans combined “dough” and “nut” to make the word “doughnut.”
  • As doughnuts emerged as a popular treat during the 1930s-50s, steps were taken at Krispy Kreme to modernize the doughnut-making process. Hand cut doughnuts became a thing of the past with the Krispy Kreme automatic doughnut cutter, which extrudes the dough by air pressure to form a perfect doughnut shape. This technology is still used in our retail stores today.
  • The hole in the center of the doughnut is credited to a young boy named Hanson Gregory, who, in 1847, suggested to his mother that she put a hole in the middle of her “fried cakes” to ensure the cake was fully cooked in the middle. Until recently, the infamous doughnut “hole” was not available at Krispy Kreme retail locations. Krispy Kreme developed doughnut hole cutters for our doughnut-making equipment and is now able to produce bite-size versions of some of your favorite doughnut varieties – Original Glazed, Glazed Cake, Glazed Chocolate Cake and Glazed Blueberry. Krispy Kreme Doughnut Holes are available in 24 and 48 count packages at participating U.S. retail locations.
  • Krispy Kreme recently introduced new doughnut shapes made from our classic yeast-raised doughnuts that are cut into shapes near the beginning of the doughnut making process and are then decorated with icing and sprinkles.  Participating retail stores can produce hearts, footballs, stars, eggs and pumpkins.
  • The latest craze for doughnuts?  Serving Krispy Kreme doughnuts at weddings or making your favorite desert with Krispy Kreme doughnuts or doughnut holes.
