Notre Dame de Paris, the musical, will be opening at the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands on 17 December 2013. The romantic musical will be performed in English, telling the story of Quasimodo the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Esmeralda the Gypsy girl.
Notre Dame de Paris premiered in Paris, France in September of 1998 attracting audiences of more than four million in France and breaking box office records in Canada, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and South Korea exceeding 10 million spectators. The musical has been staged over 4,000 times in 20 other countries.
The plot tells the story of the unfortunate cathedral bell ringer, the hunchback Quasimodo and his hopeless devotion for the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda. Quasimodo has to compete with Pheobus, the unfaithful soldier and Frollo, a priest who also desire for Esmeralda.
The English lyrics were written by Will Jennings, Oscar-winner for “My heart will go on” from the film Titanic. You can expect more than 54 vivid arias of operatic beauty and rock resonance, seven principal artistes and 24 dancers and acrobats as well as a grand modern impressionistic stage set featuring a 12 metre high ‘climbing wall’ facade of the grand Catherdral.
The English language album features the main stars of the London Production as well as Celine Dion singing ‘Live for the One I Love’.
