Japan Airlines (JAL) will expand its JAL NEW SKY PROJECT and install in-flight internet service on select domestic flights. Initially launched by JAL in January this year, the JAL SKY SUITE 777 was introduced on international routes offering increased comfort and functionality in all classes based on the theme “Designed to evoke a ‘one-class higher’ feel.  New fully-flat seats were introduced in JAL Business Class.

Starting December this year, the new JAL SKY SUITE 767 will be introduced onto select international flights.

JAL will revamp cabin interiors on aircraft that operates on select domestic routes. There are 77 aircraft based on the current plan and the airline intends to launch the new domestic service from May 2014 with more details of the schedule to be announced at a later date. The 77 aircraft comprises an all Boeing fleet of 777-200/300, 767-300/300ER and 737-800.

This will comprise installation of leather seating and LED lighting throughout the cabin. Economy seats will feature slim-style seatback design offering 5cm more legroom. The all leather seats offer a better fit to the passengers’ back and overall body. Its light-weight material also helps to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. The new genuine leather covered Business class seats will offer slightly wider space.

LED lighting within the cabin is based on the concept of “air-like lighting”. Depending on the flight hours, the season and natural rhythm of time, the cabin atmosphere can be adjusted to create a relaxing environment and a feeling of Japan.

First class service will be installed on some of the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

In-flight internet service is currently available on select JAL international flights since July last year. It will be first installed onto select Japan-domestic flights. JAL will become the first Japanese carrier to offer in-flight internet service at a fee on domestic flights in Summer 2014.  The airline will use GOGO’s service allowing passengers to access the internet and send or receive emails via Wi-Fi enabled personal devices during the flight.
