There is a lot more to exercise than just plain running nowadays. Recent studies are pointing towards the combination of endurance (aerobic) and resistance (muscle building) training for better weight control and overall improvement in performance. Still, many of us lack the knowledge and guidance to properly train the numerous muscles in our body.

The Moving Body (FB) Pilates studio is bringing in two new ways to work all our muscle groups in one class. Perfect for anyone, regardless of fitness levels, the newly developed MOre Than a Roller (MOTR) and Bodhi Suspension System is here to give us the ultimate functional training programme.

Developed by Pilates instructor, Darya Bronston, the MOTR is essentially personal training in a 43” tube. It works well to stimulate an uneven surface, with a full 360-degree range of motion and resistance of three weight levels. It is versatile, allowing cardio, balance, functional training, mind-body, agility, strength training and the list goes on.

Next up is the first four-point suspension exercise system for fitness, the Bodhi Suspension Sytem. With this, your own body weight and physics creates the resistance a.k.a. challenge. The strap system is a lot gentler on the joints, with give in the ropes. That does not mean it is not as effective as the traditional TRX. It still does well to fire the core stability muscles for whole body strength and flexibility.

After a quick session with both the MOTR and Bodhi Suspension System, I must say, this has been the easiest workout I have ever had. It was only the day after that I started feeling the muscle aches, in places I never knew possible. The beauty of it is really in how much control you have over the “stress” you are placing on your muscle groups – be it the resistance or your actual weight.

Truth to be told, I was still recovering from an ankle sprain from a week earlier. I felt minimal pain on the joint, or at least not to the point where I had to stop the work out. If you need more proof, my trainer, Audrey D’Cotta who was far into her pregnancy, could take part in most of the exercises. Even more so, she recommends it. Easy yet effective, there is no required fitness level, extending even to those looking to rehabilitate.
