EXPRESSO!
Braving the foregone conclusion of being slapped with a hefty fine, would you take a walk on the wild side, along our AYE, MCE, ECP, all 150 kms of it, in the quest of documenting life by the Expressway?

Italian film director Gianfranco Rosi and screenwriter Nicolo Bassetti did sit down (after their very long walk of Rome’s giant ring road) to the task and their film Sacro GRA won Venice Film Festival Golden Lion 2013.
“It was a monster,” Bassetti described the two-year roam around Rome.

Which he confronted and somewhat conquered. He filled 20 notebooks with jottings and sketches and scribbles and drawings and statistics. Assuming time out for dolce vita reasons, that works out to a notebook a month. You can do it, surely, Singapore has just the 10 expressways.

Built to serve 400,000 cars, 20,000 taxis, 3,000 buses, but can you find a cab on Friday nights?!

Long story short, hurry down to Cathay Cineleisure and catch some 10 films from the recent 70th Venice Film Festival at the Italian Film Festival, its 11th in Singapore this year. Once again presented by the Italian Cultural Institute here.

A very choice selection from masterly Italian filmmakers, including three Asian offerings.Until 7 April.
