Resorts World Sentosa’s S.E.A. Aquarium has launched its first themed month starting this August – SEAA Wonders: Sharks. With a strong commitment to its pillars of Marine Education, Research, and Conservation, the Aquarium aims to raise awareness and educate guests about different species of marine life.

Resorts World Sentosa collaborated with WildAid Shark Savers to have Cristina Zenato, a renowned shark conservationist, make an appearance at S.E.A. Aquarium to dispel the myth that sharks are terrifying man-eating monsters. Known as the First Lady of Sharks, Cristina will be hand feeding the sharks in S.E.A. Aquarium’s Sharks Tank for visitors to observe her interactions with the sharks. She will be hand feeding the sharks on 7 & 8 August at 1130am, 230pm & 430pm, each session will last about 20 minutes.

Cristina may also be attempting to induce immobility to the sharks. Cristina practices a little known technique of rubbing and manipulating her fingers across the ampullae of Lorenzini, the visible dots (electro-receptive sensory organs) around a shark’s head and face which induces immobility. To the observer, this looks like a shark falling asleep right in her lap. Her ability to work with several types of shark in this manner has allowed her to study them up close, and to aid in marine science research. She will also be sharing about her life-long passion for diving and shark conservation with visitor on 7 & 8 August at 1230pm & 330pm and 9 August at 1130am, 230pm & 430pm at the Ocean Dome.
