Singapore Fashion Week (SFW) returns 13 to 17 May 2015. In its ninth edition, this year’s Singapore Fashion Week introduces a global strategic alliance with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and a new strategy to bring about internationalisation of Singapore designers.

CFDA has more than 400 members with over 50 years of experience in strengthening the influence and success of American designers. This alliance will allow Singapore fashion designers to gain insights and best practices to develop and internationalise Singapore designers. Two CFDA members comprising an iconic designer and one established or emerging Americna designer will attend and showcase their latest collections at SFW.

Diane von Furstenberg, iconic designer and President of the CFDA will open SFW this year. Diane is renowned for her iconic wrap dress and signature prints. Her designs have been worn by leading women including First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge, and A-list celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana and Miranda Kerr.

Diane will speak with fashion students, industry professionals and members of the public alongside the CEO of the CFDA, Steven Kolb as part of a series of thought-leadership and industry talks organised in partnership with LASALLE College of the Arts.

SFW will also introduce talent support programmes that provide designers with the opportunity to learn from key industry leaders and professionals. This is done through Blueprint’s new buyer-driven approach and international team, helmed by Fay Nwokobia-Rees, former Head of Business Development for L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival and supported by Melanie Keys, Buyer Management Consultant for Blueprint 2015.

SFW will broaden its scope to include industry and trade. UK Trade & Investment, NET-A-Porter and Australian businesses forged this year will bring about additional business and networking opportunities for Singapore designers, while creating inroads to international and regional markets.
