Tradition says that we need to be adorned in everything brand new from head to toe on New Year’s Day. I say, it’s the perfect excuse for me to go on a shopping spree! While many have opted for more modern and Western-styled clothing, I still have an admiration for a delicately designed Cheongsam. One thing, though, I don’t want to look like a bad cosplay of a 1920s Shanghai film.
The collection boasts incorporation of fabrics, such as jacquards and neoprene. Honestly, neoprene was the last thing I expected to see in a new year collection, but ZALORA has managed to meld this fabric into their dresses; giving it a nice bounce and flare no matter how long you’ve been out and about.
For those who are a little more “Pan Tang” (local term for superstitious folks) and wants to walk all over town in red but don’t want to look like a fashion terrorist, you’re in safe hands. Auspicious red blends, from bright rose to darker wines, are kept fresh and modern by complimenting them with hues of blue, white and coral. My personal favourite would be the floral designs that is reminiscent of bone china, with an eye-catching yet subtle pop of rose red.
The collection was indeed extensive. While modern refresh of oriental floral prints as the main driving force of this collection, they also boasts many floral and lace designs – in everything from a peplum top, playsuit and fit-and-flare dresses. Talk about being completely spoilt for choice.
In fact, if I am feeling lazy, I can just go straight to a stunning one piece. With these loud prints, I could easily pair the dress or a playsuit with a simple yet sophisticated pair of nude of white heels. The designs are extravagant, without going too over the top. Surely, with so many tops and bottoms to mix and match with, the collection could be worn both to work, or, when paired with some accessories or re-arranging our hair a little, for a fun night out.
The best part? ZALORA has already released this collection online on their web-store with prices ranging from S$24.90 to S$69.90, including shoes, accessories and even make-up! The next best thing? Same-day delivery. Looks like we ladies can do some last minute shopping without skimping on the glam factor (or breaking the bank) this Chinese New Year.
