Not quite first…yet. The San Pellegrino Young Chef 2015 is a global talent search for the hottest in the kitchen. He or she will be judged by an international jury in June at Expo Milano.

From 20 countries, 10 semi-finalists were picked, to cook a signature dish each, adhering to five golden rules to win.

Needless to say, but I will, of Southeast Asia’s selection, five out of 10 are Singapore’s.

Now you understand how our Singlish term “kiasu” is Oxford English Dictionary’s word of the day?

But to be fair, our community of chefs here are culinarily skilled to Olympic standards, so bravo and brava!

Immanuel Tee, from his French Kitchen, Kirk Westaway, Jaan, Chua Guo Sen, Sky On 57, Elaine Koh, Jaan, Andrea de Paola, &Sons Bacaro.

Wow, two nods to Jaan then eh, better than winning the EGOT (Emmy Grammy Oscar Tony).

A local jury last week sweated five hours in a cooking school to judge the 10 semi-finalists (others three from India, one from Indonesia, one from Thailand).

And Singapore came out tops!

Congratulations to Jaan’s Kirk Westaway Southeast Asia’s champ who will be flying (and frying?) for Singapore in Expo Milano in June this year.

May the Forza! be with you, Captain Kirk!
