If you are not rushing for time, want to get to your destination comfortably and yet cut down your transportation costs, now there is GrabHitch on the GrabTaxi App.
GrabHitch is a carpooling service where you share your ride with a fellow commuter heading the same direction. You could save as much as half the taxi cost when you use GrabHitch. Perfect for situations such as right after a concert at the stadium or after New Year’s Eve countdown.
If you are a car owner, you can also sign up via the GrabTaxi App to be a GrabHitch Driver. You just need to provide documentation including driving license, motor vehicle registration and insurance. There will also be further verification checks for major traffic offences, in order to ensure the safety of passengers.
For safety and preference, you can choose to hitch a ride with a fellow passenger of the same gender. Passengers and drivers are required to log in with their Facebook, so it allows the parties to see each other’s profile and whether they share mutual friends. All drivers and passengers will be continually verified by GrabTaxi’s feedback system. The ‘Share My Ride’ feature is also available for GrabHitch, so you can share it with someone to allow live tracking on the ride.
So now drivers can literally charge their Facebook friends for carpooling with them… JUST SAYING…
Passengers can pre-book a ride seven days in advance and up to 15 minutes before pickup by simply by entering their pickup location and destination. Drivers and passengers will be notified when a successful match of the route is made.
All fares are paid via GrabPay, the cashless credit card option available in the GrabTaxi app. GrabHitch is now open for the beta driver signup phase in Singapore, which runs from 11 to 30 November 2015.
In line with Singapore carpooling regulations, GrabHitch drivers will only be able to accept up to two rides a day, and the fares will only cover the driver’s variable costs, such as petrol and car depreciation. The fares for GrabHitch rides are calculated based on the distance of the ride and is shown upfront so you can decide whether you are comfortable with the price before confirming the booking.
