LG Launches the Optimus Black & Optimus 2X in Singapore

3 March 2011, Singapore – 2 new sleek smartphones were unveiled today by LG Electronics boasting the world’s first capabilities – the LG Optimus Black and LG Optimus 2X.    The 9.2 mm LG Optimus Black comes with a dramatically brighter 4-inch NOVA display while the LG Optimus 2X lets you enjoy a faster and smoother multitasking experience with virtually no screen lag with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor with a dual-core CPU.

LG Optimus Black: Slim and Bright

LG Optimus Black’s NOVA display boasts the brightest and clearest readable mobile screen with 700 nits (a unit of luminance equal to 1 cadela per square metre) of brightness for optimal visibility.  This means that, even in a bright outdoor environment, you will still be able to view the contents on your screen with ease.

Power consumption is reduced by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to the conventional LCD. AMOLED screens consumer twice as much power as NOVA screens to display a full white screen which is also the most frequently used colour scheme for web browsing.    The Optimus Black comes with a 1500 mAh battery, which LG claims, will have enough power for your daily needs, even at maximum brightness settings.

The ultra slim 9.2mm design tapers down to the world’s thinnest smartphone profile of 6 mm, the Optimus Black weighs only 109g.  An Invisible Receiver hides behind the edges of the phone allowing a flawless finish to the front display.

The Optimus UI 2.0 allows you to directly access your messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with just one single finger tap.  The Gesture UI offers more intuitive commands such as lifting, shaking and tapping, for taking calls, entering camera mode, or enjoying music.   The Optimus Black works on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform with Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade capability.

The Optimus Black also boasts the world’s first Wi-Fi Direct which allows you to transfer data between mobile devices quickly and 2MP front-facing camera.   An application is required to enable Wi-Fi Direct on the phone and will be available for download from Android Market in the first half of 2011.

The LG Optimus Black will be available in Singapore from 21 May 2011 at a recommended retail price of S$738.00.

This smartphone also has 1080p HD video playback and recording with HDMI mirroring that expands content on external displays to full HD quality.   It can also connect wireless to any Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) compatible digital device such as a HD TV for a console-like gaming experience taking full advantage of the phone’s HDMI mirroring, accelerometer and gyro sensor.  Gamers can download and enjoy games such as Backbreaker, Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Samurai II, Pinball HD, Citdael EPIC, Galaxy on Fire 2, Fruit Ninja HD, Dungeon Defender, Monster Madness, Crush the Castle 2 or Farmville, to name a few.

The smartphone also comes with both rear and front facing cameras, microSD memory expandability, Micro-USB port and a 1500mAh battery.

The LG Optimus 2X will be available in Singapore from March 2011 at a recommended retail price of S$888.00.

With a product strategy to be the first to market tech and innovation for mobile products, LG Electronics announced that they will be launching a suite of five Optimus products in the first half of 2011.  The first two that will be launched are the LG Optimus 2X and LG Optimus Black.  Subsequently the LG Optimus One, LG Optimus Pad and LG Optimus 3D will be launched.
