United Airlines supports the rich diversity of ideas and experiences that reflect its customers and co-workers.  The unique backgrounds, lifestyles and perspectives of its diverse workforce helps United Airlines to improve the experience for its customers and create innovative solutions to its global business needs.  The airline has long supported programmes that promote LGBT awareness and inclusion.

United Airlines was named one of the “Top Companies for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Equality” for 2013 by Work Life Matters magazine yesterday evening. It has also received the Business Leadership Award from Equality Illinois, the state’s oldest and largest LGBT advocacy group. Human Rights Campaign has also named United as a “Best Place to Work” for five consecutive years and scored a 100% rating on the organisation’s Corporate Equity Index.

Chad Griffin, President of Human Rights Campaign Foundation shares in his letter for the Corporate Equality Index 2013:

“For the first time in history, a majority of the Fortune 500 offers both sexual orientation and gender identity protections.  Beyond these basic and essential protections, record numbers of Fortune-ranked and other major businesses have comprehensively updated their benefits packages to ensure that newcomers to their workplaces can expect both partner benefits and transgender-inclusive benefits and that retiring LGBT workers will see the financial benefits that they have worked so hard to accrue will go to their surviving family members.”
