ANA To Order 70 New Aircraft Worth 1700 Billion Yen

ANA Holdings will place firm orders for 70 new aircraft worth JPY 1,700 billion with Boeing and Airbus as approved at a Board of Directors meeting today making it the airline’s biggest order to support ANA’s drive to become one of the world’s leading airline groups. Orders for the new aircraft is expected to be delivered between FY 2016-2027 and will increase the fleet to 250 aircraft.

  • 20 Boeing 777-9X
  • 6 Boeing 777-300ER
  • 14 Boeing 787-9
  • 7 A320neo
  • 23 A321neo

The airline will purchase 20 large twin-aisle Boeing 777-9X aircraft as well as six Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to support its international services expansion until the delivery of the Boeing 777-9X. It will also purchase fourteen additional medium sized Boeing 787-9 aircraft to get a fleet of 80 Dreamliners, making ANA the largest operator of this aircraft type. The new Boeing aircraft will be used on international routes.

From Airbus, ANA will purchase 30 smaller single-aisle jets including seven A320neo and 23 A321neo aircraft. These will replace the airline’s existing B737-500 and A320ceo aircraft and will be used on domestic routes and international routes.

This fleet expansion is to help to meed the increasing number of passengers expected to arrive in Japan in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games as well as to support the Japanese government’s plans to boost the annual total of foreign visitors to Japan to 20 million.

Today ANA has 238 aircraft flying to 81 destinations carrying more than 44 million passengers. The airline is also a member of Star Alliance. It’s parent company ANA Holdings is an aviation group with global operations and a total of 64 consolidated subsidiaries and 18 equity method affiliates. It is involved in passengers and cargo business as well as airline related businesses such as Catering and IT Services.
