ANA & THAI To Introduce In Flight OnAir Wi-Fi Service

Inflight WiFi

If you are flying any international routes on ANA from 1 March onwards, you may just be able to use the new ANA Wi-Fi Service by OnAir. ANA Wi-Fi Service will be available on all classes of selected international flights serviced by the Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

Usage plans are charged by data usage. Up to 5MB costs US$6, Up to 10MB costs US$12 and Up to 20MB costs US$24.

ANA first announced on 25 June 2012 that Wi-Fi would be available on its international routes from Summer 2014.

Thai Airways will launch THAI Sky Connect from mid February on its fleet of Airbus A330-300 and A380-800 aircraft. THAI is the first airline to receive approval from the National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission to provide inflight connectivity in Thailand’s airspace with OnAir being the only provider authorised to deliver inflight Wi-Fi Services to airlines in Thailand.

THAI is also one of three airlines currently operating OnAir connectivity on the A380s with all three using Immarsat’s SwiftBroadband satellite network. More than 50 A380s provide Internet OnAir and Mobile OnAir every day. THAI is the 21st airline to operate OnAir connectivity and the seventh in Asia.

Smartphone users can enjoy 3MB of data at US$4.50 or 10MB at US$14.50. Tablet and laptop users pay US$14.50 for 10MB or US$28.50 for 20MB.

Internet OnAir provides consistent global coverage with a combination of over 100 regulatory authorisations as well as its use of Inmarsat’s I4 SBB network. It has over 350 mobile network roaming agreements.

I actually prefer Etihad Airways’ WiFly pricing structure which is charged by timing instead of data. Read about it here.
