20 November 2012, Singapore – Singapore Changi Airport saw its highest number of passengers for the month of October with 4.27 million movements recorded, a 10% increment compared to the same month last year. The airport also handled 27,600 flight movements, an increase of 5.2% over October 2011.

Increasing by double digits are traffic to and from the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and Southwest Pacific.

Changi Airport has handled 41.9 million passengers year-to-date growing 9.9%. Aircraft movements from January to October 2012 totalled 268,000, an increase of 8.1%. Airfreight movments in October dipped 8% year-on-year to 150,000 tonnes. Changi Airport handled 1.50 million tonnes of cargo from January to October 2012, a 2.4% reduction compared to the same period last year.

Changi Airport serves passengers and cargo from 230 cities in 60 countries and territories. There are more than 100 airlines operating some 6,400 week flights.

On 28 October, SilkAir launched thrice-weekly services between Singapore and Visakhapatnam making Changi Airport the most connected point in Southeast Asia to India. Visakhapatnam is one of India’s largest seaports and the 12th Indian destination linked to Changi Airport.

Lufthansa Cargo commenced freight services between Singapore and Kazhakstan’s major commercial centre Almaty, operating twice weekly on the Frankfurt-Almaty-Singapore route using the 89-tonne MD-11F aircraft.

Shenzhen Airlines made its inaugural Shenzhen – Singapore flights in October.

A new TWG Tea retail outlet opened in Terminal 2, while Vertu launched a new outlet at Terminal 2’s Transit Mall.
