The 19th edition of the Emirates Singapore Derby was held today at the Singapore Turf Club. Spalato, ridden by jockey M. Nunes, competed the 2,000m race in 2:02.40 minutes followed by Stepitup and Magical Talent in second and third place respectively.
The Emirates Singapore Derby is the second richest domestic race with S$1.15 million offered in prize money. It is also the final and longest leg of the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge with a series of three races running over varying distances and restricted to four-year old horses.
I was at the races at noon and joined Sylvia Toh Paik Choo for lunch at the Committee Box.
Sylvia Toh joined Dana Koh, Style Editor at Singapore Tatler and Audi Fashion Festival director’s Tjin Lee to pick the “Best Dressed at the Races” contest winners. Mrs Kathy Then emerged the grand winner and walked away with two return Emirates Business Class tickets from Singapore to Melbourne with passes to ‘The Race that Stops a Nation’ at the Emirates Melbourne Cup Day 2014 on 4 November 2014.
Emirates also helped to raise more than S$42,000 through the pre-sale of donation tables as well as donations by guests at the event for four voluntary welfare organisations under the care of Community Chest – Whispering Hearts Family Service Centre, St. Andrew’s Mission Hospital – St. Andrew’s Autism School, Alzheimer’s Disease Association – New Horizon (Toa Payoh) and the Society for the Physically Disabled – SPD Therapy Hub.
