It was 31 January 2014 and we were on board Tigerair flight TR2992 from Singapore to Taipei. It was the first day of the year of the horse and also the Lunar New Year.
While most people remained in Singapore to visit family and friends over the weekend and exchanged mandarin oranges, feasted and had lots of the Chinese New Year goodies, we took a different route this year and celebrated the new year in Taipei.
What a better way to celebrate the new year with the God of Fortune at over 30,000 feet.
I was just excited to eat on board. If you hadn’t already noticed, I really enjoy inflight meals. I had the Nonya Chicken Meal which was not too spicy while Dennis had the Irish Lamb Stew with Parsley Rice Meal. The meals were wonderful, albeit small servings that barely filled our tummies.
155 other passengers accompanied me and Dennis on the 8.30am flight. Tigerair hongbaos filled with vouchers ranging from hotel vouchers to flight vouchers worth S$38 to S$888 were distributed to everyone. My ang pow was filled with a S$388 voucher and I have not decided where my next vacation will be.
Eight lucky passengers received S$888 vouchers and one of them, 36 year old Lee Kin Kit is planning his next trip to the Maldives. It may have been a rather turbulent journey that day, but passengers on board were excited by the surprise, snapping photos and clapping away. Flight attendants had to ask excited passengers to remain in their seats because the Fasten Seat Belt sign was turned on.
Meanwhile back at Changi Airport, Tigerair joined the National Taxi Association to give out ang pows to 1,000 taxi drivers.
