Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights Review

Universal Studios Singapore presents Halloween Horror Nights

22 October 2011, Singapore – Being one of the largest Halloween event staged in Southeast Asia, Halloween Horror Night at Universal Studios Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa, is built to be intense, fun and highly entertaining horror. (UPDATE:  If you are thinking of attending Halloween Horror Night in 2012, we have EXCLUSIVE INSIGHTS straight from the backstage of USS! Click here for ticketing information).

From the moment you step into the theme park till you leave, you will receive RANDOM “welcomes” from the undeads and the spirits in the dark, misty and eerie streets. I got my first fright while taking pictures in the mist when suddenly this creepy Ballerina pops out from the mist just inches away from my face to welcome me. She kept on dancing and faded back into the mist.

And from my friend Ashley, she said that while in the restroom she noticed a bunch of girls contemplating if they should step out of the restroom as they were too scared of roving zombies on the streets!!

And being the first Universal Studios in Southeast Asia, they even brought us horror that relates to the Asian roots, with a 19th century authentic and dilapidated Peranakan haunted house made specially for this occasion. The haunted house was very well staged with dead bodies hanging in mid air, and unpredictable scare pranks coming from anywhere you can imagine. During my trip in the haunted house, there was a guy behind me, who kept on begging to the scare actors, RELAX lah bro, my girlfriend crying liao.”

Being a fan of Left 4 Dead, my favourite spot have to be New York Street where it is transformed into a Post Apocalyptic Rage street where Earth becomes hell, consumed in chaos. To make your S$60 worth it, get frightened by 280 scare actors roving around the theme park and in the chaotic New York Street. More often than not, you will find a flock of undeads emerging from among the living.

I was impressed by the scare actors’ professionalism. They are so into their role that even when I walked to a Mummy to ask for directions to the restrooms, he just kept on portraying his role and ignored me. But won’t it be funny if he jumps out of his character and directed me to the restrooms. LOL. (Editor’s note: Or I suspect they really didn’t know where the toilets are)

For those who are timid and do not want to take pictures with the roving zombie and ghosts on the streets, Universal Studios have staged a sadistic filmmaker to welcome guests to be cast in his FINAL CUT. All you need to do is just sit on a chair and take a picture in the set with the director filming you.

With rides like Battlestar Galactica, Revenge of the Mummy and Accelerator in operation during the Halloween Horror Night, this makes it also the only Halloween event in the region with theme park rides.

This was my first time taking Battlestar Galactica in the night and the experience is totally different when you are not able to predict your track clearly in low light.

Being a Cam Whore, I enjoyed the experience at Halloween Horror Nights, the scare actors are always ready to role play with you to get that perfect shot, Priceless!

I also love those occasional scares and seeing girls on the street screaming and running away from the roving zombies. This is the best Halloween event I’ve ever been, I recommend to go as a group of not more than 4 people and have HELL lot of fun time to celebrate Halloween there. Check out my ratings and picture gallery below.

Here’s my rating for Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights:

  • Photo opportunity: Limitless (remember to bring a good camera that works well under low light)
  • Role Play by the actors: 10 out of 10 (try asking one of the zombies to turn around and take a picture, they will be moving so slowly just like a zombie)
  • Quality of Props Used: 10 out of 10 (must visit the Haunted House and New York Street)
  • Fun Factor: 10 out of 10
  • Horror Ambiance: 9 out of 10 (I wished they have done some horror theme at rides)
  • Scare Factor: 8.5 out of 10 (maybe because I kept on laughing at the guy begging the scare actors in the Haunted House)
  • Price Factor: 8 out of 10 (Although its pricey as it costs S$60 with Madagascar, Far Far Away and Jurassic Park off limits. However, this 7 day exclusive event comes with a big budget to stage the horror attractions)
