Voyage Night Festival 2011

28 July 2011, Singapore – After attracting more than 87,000 visitors last year and now returning for its fourth year, the Night Festival is themed as “Voyage” which wills the spirits of hope and  courage behind all sea journeys in song, rhythm and images. Singapore being an island once unknown to the world and now turned one of the world’s busiest sea port, Voyage Night Festival 2011 celebrates the cultures nurtured by seas and memories of history’s great explorers, emissaries and traders. This year’s Night Festival will also be extending this annual event to two weekends on 26 – 27 August 2011 and 2 – 3 September 2011. And complementing the Night Festival this year is Night Lights 2011 presented by the Singapore Art Museum in conjunction with Nuit Blanche from Paris. Night Lights 2011 will brighten up the Bras Basah District and transporting festival-goers into a magical realm through seven light installations from 26 August to 3 September 2011.

Not forgetting the main highlight for every year’s Night Festival will be an amazing outdoor performance outside of National Museum. This year Theater TOL‘s outdoor aerial performance combining dance, acrobatics, music, film and pyrotechnics will take visitors through a world of voyages and encounters akin to summer night dreams on 26 & 27 August at 10:30pm only.

On 2 & 3 September from 7:30pm to 2am only at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) Front Lawn, there will be a visual and sound-based interactive mapping projection, Lyrical Perspective (Perspective Lyrique), by 1024 architecture to make the SAM facade comes alive. With over 50 performances, installations, exhibition, film screenings and music programmes prepared for this annual event, Voyage Night Festival 2011 is presented by National Museum of Singapore with Singapore Art Museum, Peranakan Museum, The Substation and Singapore Management University. During the festival, visitors can enjoy complimentary late night admission to the National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum including its extension building SAM at 8Q from 7pm to 2am on 26 – 27 August and 2 – 3 September.
