SUMMARY:Aesop Women's Library at Aesop's MBS and VivoCity outlets
DESCRIPTION:Aesop Women’s Library at Vivo City (Aesop photo)\n\n\n\nFollowing International Women’s Day in March\, Aesop continues to elevate women’s voices and stories—no matter the date or occasion. In this spirit\, and to foster strength and solidarity among all women\, Aesop presents its inaugural Women’s Library\, arriving in two Singapore signature stores on 20—24 April 2022. \n\n\n\nOver the course of five days\, the shelves of Aesop VivoCity and Aesop Marina Bay Sands will be cleared of product and filled entirely with books by predominantly South East Asian authors who identify as women and allies. The selection—composed of recommendations from four collaborating publishing houses who champion local literary voices—is sprawling in genre and spirit: from emerging voices to seasoned authors\, and short stories to novels and poetry. The featured writers include Pooja Nansi\, Melissa De Silva\, Amanda Chong\, Stephanie Chan\, and Annaliza Bakri. \n\n\n\nAesop Women’s Library at Marina Bay Sands (Aesop photo)\n\n\n\nThe ephemeral library will allow customers visiting the stores to select a complimentary book of their choice—with no purchase required. To support local independent publishers and booksellers in Singapore\, Aesop has purchased over 50 titles from Math Paper Press\, Epigram\, Ethos Books and Sea Breeze Books. \n\n\n\nAs a soundtrack of sorts to the Women’s Library\, an audio collage will be broadcast in the two signature stores and available to listen to online. An extension of Aesop’s global Sounds of sisterhood initiative—a soundscape created to coincide with International Women’s Day\, featuring recorded messages from colleagues and collaborators—the mix will bring together the voices of Asian women and allies\, sharing stories of affection\, wisdom and the multifaceted nature of womanhood. For this iteration of Sounds of sisterhood\, Aesop is collaborating with Singaporean artist Weish\, whose own music incorporates layers of live loops\, vocals and experimental instrumentation.

SUMMARY:Celebrate World Environment Day with Booking.com at Analogue
DESCRIPTION:Aztec Tepache (S$25/S$16)\n\n\n\nSpanish Sun (S$5) & Japanese Puris (S$5)\n\n\n\nMoroccan Morsel (S$18)\n\n\n\nBangkok Jam (S$8)\n\n\n\n\nBooking.com presents its first-ever food and art pop-up in Singapore for three days from 3 to 5 June 2022 to celebrate World Environment Day which falls on 5 June 2022. This first-of-its-kind partnership with plant-based resto-bar Analogue Initiative and artists Mama Magnet and Human Spectrum seeks to remind us of our impact on the planet. The online travel agency hopes to reignite this consciousness amongst travellers\, especially as many start to explore the world again. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn exclusive tasting menu is inspired by iconic destinations around the world such as Japan\, Spain and Morocco. Enjoy dishes such as the Spanish Sun & Japanese Puris. A gazpacho that packs a punch both in freshness and flavour made from local tomatoes farmed via vertical aeroponics at Tomato Town. Paired with the gazpacho is snowy delicate enoki mushroom sautéed to perfection and served in two puri shells and topped with micro coriander. \n\n\n\nThe Moroccon Morsel features melt-in-your-mouth maple grilled carrots seasoned with earthly flavours of the caraway seed and layered with potato jagabee\, onion jam\, celery and yellow zucchini ribbon salad. That’s five of the most carbon-efficient vegetables in one dish. End with the Bangkok Jam\, Analogue’s take on the agar jelly. It is infused with tangy lime and topped with seasonal fruits. Aztec Tepache is Analogue’s first 100% zero-waste rum cocktail made from pickled pineapple\, skin cordial\, infused with lapsang souchong tea and a hint of black pepper. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBe sure to check out the “As We Move” interactive light-focused installation. Interact with it by moving. The installation is the work collective Mama Magnet from Singapore and Thailand’s Human Spectrum.

SUMMARY:Do not miss the monologue of Kwa Geok Choo - The Story of Mrs Lee Kuan Yew by Ovidia Yu
DESCRIPTION:Toy Factory Productions presents Kwa Geok Choo\, a tribute to the remarkable woman and wife of Lee Kuan Yew and mother of Lee Hsien Loong. Her actions and influence were responsible for directing the waves\, currents and tides that shape lives in Singapore. \n\n\n\nKwa Geok Choo is written by Ovidia Yu and directed by Toy Factory Productions’ Chief Artistic Director Goh Boon Teck. This moving theatrical piece will engage the audience in a memorable and meaningful performance. \n\n\n\n“The decision to craft this play as a one-woman monologue was a concerted one. Madam Kwa Geok Choo was always one to stay away from the limelight while playing a significant role in the background to shape our nation. Her voice should be heard in the most personal and tranquil way\, to guide us into the ‘delicate’ side of our history\,” shares Boon Teck. \n\n\n\nOvidia is a Singaporean writer who has published award-winning plays and short stories. She has won many awards and has had over 30 of her plays produced. She adds that “we know of her reputation as a brilliant student and lawyer; and that two of our Prime Ministers would not have been the men they were if not for her. She did more to shape our nation than any other individual who has never held public office. It is very important that we try to see and remember her as a person\, and not just historical data.”  \n\n\n\nTan Rui Shan plays the role of Kwa Geok Choo. The 30-year-old shares that it is her goal to tell Kwa Geok Choo’s story as a woman\, wife and mother\, as truthfully as she cans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis monologue follows Kwa Geok Choo from girlhood and early romance to life as a political wife and mother; top conveyancing lawyer and the main breadwinner of the Lee Family. It explores how it might have felt to be\, as Lee Kuan Yew himself said\, smarter than he but forever limited by gender to a secondary role. This is our tribute to the remarkable woman whose actions and influence are responsible for directing the waves\, currents and tides that shape our lives in Singapore. It is a family love letter to all Singaporeans\, in the hope that memories of Kwa Geok Choo\, alongside those of our mothers\, grandmothers and others who’ve passed on\, will forever form the wellspring of our identity.  \n\n\n\nCatch the 1 1/2 hour performance at 8 pm from Tuesday to Saturday\, and 3 pm on Friday\, Saturday and Sunday. There is no interval. \n\n\n\nDue to popular demand more dates have been released. The show dates are now 8 to 31 July 2022 and has been extended from 24 July 2022 previously. \n\n\n\nTickets are priced at S$58\, S$78 and S$98 excluding the booking fee. Passion Card members\, Senior Citizens\, students and NSFs enjoy a 10% discount off Cate 1 & 2 tickets. Senior citizens and students also enjoy 20% of Category 1 and 2 tickets for Friday 3 pm shows.

I am extremely heartened to be able to translate this in a live concert setting that will contribute to many\, not just of the music industry alone. I consider this to be an absolute honour and privilege.” Gentle Bones
