SUMMARY:Sake Matsuri 2022 is back after two years break!
DESCRIPTION:The last Sake Matsuri we attended was in 2019\n\n\n\nSake Matsuri returns after a two-year break because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The one-day event on 25 June 2022 will be held at the UE Square\, Skylight Atrium\, an outdoor sheltered space to raise awareness and appreciation of craft sake in Singapore. \n\n\n\nThe format remains largely the same as the past 3 Sake Matsuri events. A single ticket grants access to the festival grounds. Various merchant kiosks will offer a selection of sakes for tastings and purchases. Over 150 sakes and Japanese spirits from 14 vendors will be available for tasting before you purchase at attractive prices. \n\n\n\nThe Kurokohaku by Kamogawa Sake Brewery\, the world’s oldest kijoshi and most expensive available in Singapore at S$22\,000\, will be retailing as a festival exclusive. \n\n\n\nAn izakaya booth will be onsite to dish out snacks such as nori fries and oden\, as well as fried tako and shishamo. Tickets are offered in two different three-hour blocks. 11 am to 2 pm or 3 pm to 6 pm to better manage crowds. \n\n\n\nA sundown sake party will take place from 6 pm onwards. This is when the public can join in the fun and roam the entire festival grounds without tickets. The live DJ set comes on as sake vendors stop pouring. \n\n\n\nA festival cocktail booth by Beam Suntory will continue the drinks for the night. Restaurant Eclopse bar manager Niza and Section D home bartender Dannon Har will be mixing up a menu of cocktails that showcase the varied flavours of sakes as it intermingles with Japanese spirits including Roku Gin and Haku Vodka. Sake flights by sakechan will also be on the menu while a selection of sake vendors will continue offering sakes by the bottle.

SUMMARY:Do not miss the monologue of Kwa Geok Choo - The Story of Mrs Lee Kuan Yew by Ovidia Yu
DESCRIPTION:Toy Factory Productions presents Kwa Geok Choo\, a tribute to the remarkable woman and wife of Lee Kuan Yew and mother of Lee Hsien Loong. Her actions and influence were responsible for directing the waves\, currents and tides that shape lives in Singapore. \n\n\n\nKwa Geok Choo is written by Ovidia Yu and directed by Toy Factory Productions’ Chief Artistic Director Goh Boon Teck. This moving theatrical piece will engage the audience in a memorable and meaningful performance. \n\n\n\n“The decision to craft this play as a one-woman monologue was a concerted one. Madam Kwa Geok Choo was always one to stay away from the limelight while playing a significant role in the background to shape our nation. Her voice should be heard in the most personal and tranquil way\, to guide us into the ‘delicate’ side of our history\,” shares Boon Teck. \n\n\n\nOvidia is a Singaporean writer who has published award-winning plays and short stories. She has won many awards and has had over 30 of her plays produced. She adds that “we know of her reputation as a brilliant student and lawyer; and that two of our Prime Ministers would not have been the men they were if not for her. She did more to shape our nation than any other individual who has never held public office. It is very important that we try to see and remember her as a person\, and not just historical data.”  \n\n\n\nTan Rui Shan plays the role of Kwa Geok Choo. The 30-year-old shares that it is her goal to tell Kwa Geok Choo’s story as a woman\, wife and mother\, as truthfully as she cans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis monologue follows Kwa Geok Choo from girlhood and early romance to life as a political wife and mother; top conveyancing lawyer and the main breadwinner of the Lee Family. It explores how it might have felt to be\, as Lee Kuan Yew himself said\, smarter than he but forever limited by gender to a secondary role. This is our tribute to the remarkable woman whose actions and influence are responsible for directing the waves\, currents and tides that shape our lives in Singapore. It is a family love letter to all Singaporeans\, in the hope that memories of Kwa Geok Choo\, alongside those of our mothers\, grandmothers and others who’ve passed on\, will forever form the wellspring of our identity.  \n\n\n\nCatch the 1 1/2 hour performance at 8 pm from Tuesday to Saturday\, and 3 pm on Friday\, Saturday and Sunday. There is no interval. \n\n\n\nDue to popular demand more dates have been released. The show dates are now 8 to 31 July 2022 and has been extended from 24 July 2022 previously. \n\n\n\nTickets are priced at S$58\, S$78 and S$98 excluding the booking fee. Passion Card members\, Senior Citizens\, students and NSFs enjoy a 10% discount off Cate 1 & 2 tickets. Senior citizens and students also enjoy 20% of Category 1 and 2 tickets for Friday 3 pm shows.
