I’ve always favoured Speyside whiskies over Islay just because they are not peaty. Perhaps it was the time when a client offered me a generous serving of Laphroaig that got me shunning Islay whiskies. Or perhaps it was the Singleton bottles I used to drink with my buddies in my earlier days.
So when the invite came for the Bowmore’s Single Malt lunch at ADRIFT by David Myers featuring the new range of whiskies, I was slightly apprehensive. But after I gave Islay’s oldest distillery’s new range inspired by Bowmore distillery’s legendary No. 1 Vaults a taste, I was glad I gave peated whiskies another chance.
The Global Travel Retail exclusive range of Bowmore 10 year old (1 litre S$72), 15 year old (1 litre S$98) and 18 year old (70cl S$134) are now available at Changi Airport making a return to age statements for the first time in five years.
The Bowmore 10 Year Old: Dark & Intense in Sherry Cask features a dark amber colour with hints of sun-dried fruit, baked Seville orange and toasted maple on the nose before giving way to sultanas, sea salt and dark fruit oils in the palette. The lingering finish of peat-smoked walnut and spices makes it a perfect pair with oysters.
Bowmore 15 Year Old: Golden and Elegant is created in first fill Bourbon casks offering an uplifting character featuring a refreshing, silken peat smoked character with notes of citrus. Goes perfectly well with a main of Iberico Pork Chop, Umeboshi Glaze and Leek Shoots.
The Bowmore 18 Year Old: Deep & Complex is the third and final release in the new age statement range. It is the jewel in the crown of the travel retail portfolio. It has spent 18 years in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and has a rich chocolate flavour, treacle coffee, dates and bitter-sweet orange peel wash over the palate before evolving to roasted coffee and macadamia nuts.
