28 March 2012, Singapore – National Museum of Singapore presents the carefully curated collection of Cheongsam from 1920s to the present.  This exhibit is open to public for free from today till 27 June 2012 at the Exhibition Gallery 1 in the basement of the National Museum of Singapore.

In the Mood for Cheongsam explores the history and development of the traditional cheongsam, the female wearers, their fashion options, and the economic, political and social conditions through the decades. Some highlights on display are the cheongsam which belonged to the late Mrs Benjamin Sheares, Mrs Wee Kim Wee and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew. Don’t miss the rare cheongsam collection which belonged to famous actress Lin Dai which is showcased in this exhibition.

Another highlight is the pieces by the late Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Tam and local designers Tan Yoong and Francis Cheong.

The exhibition includes an Interactive Space which allows children to create their own fabric patterns and have a go at being a cheongsam designer.
