Panasonic Lumix G6 and Panasonic Lumix GF6 are two fantastic Digital Single Lens Mirrorless cameras (aka Micro Four Thirds Camera System) that are equipped with a suite of improvements that enhance the connectivity and creativity of the user. Other than the looks and build of the cameras, the  unique features of the Panasonic Lumix GF6 and G6 stand out from each other with minimal differences in image quality.

The Panasonic Lumix G6 and Panasonic Lumix GF6 will be available in Singapore from June and July 2013 respectively with pricing to be announced closer to launch.

What I Like About the Panasonic Lumix G6

The Panasonic Lumix G6, albeit a Micro Four Third camera system, looks pretty much like any DSLR in the market that also has a built-in Electronic Viewfinder but in a smaller and lightweight package (only 390g for body with battery). The G6 has a slightly better sensor than the GF6 and is capable of 7 frames per second(fps) continuous shooting, 5 fps with AF-tracking and Full AVCHD 1080/60p video with full manual control. It gets ready to shoot in only 0.5 sec after start-up, so the camera is always ready.

Newly integrated Low Light AF enables accurate focusing on the target subject even in low-lit situations and Creative Control mode with a total of 19 fascinating filter effects. G6 comes with time lapse photography mode that can be used with the creativity filter options to make unique and effortlessly beautiful timelapse video. The horse shoe mount on the G6 also gives it the flexibility to mount accessories such as flash & microphones to enhance the usage of the camera.

For fast transfer of pictures to social media networks, G6 comes with NFC and WiFi connectivity to transfer images to your smartphones. The rotate & flip touchscreen display is sensitive and under bright glaring sunlight there viewing from the screen is still bright and clear (No need to run under the shade just to review your shots).

Panasonic Lumix GF6 is slightly lighter than the G6 at only 323g for body with battery. The GF6 has a more hip design and is available in a variety of colours like White, Pink, Black and Brown. Like the G6, it also comes with Creative Control, Low Light AF, NFC, WiFi and 0.5 sec quick start up.

The 180° tiltable touchscreen display on the GF6 is more handy and friendly to use when compare to the flip & rotate display on the G6.   Without a viewfinder, the GF6 also has no issues when viewing the LCD display under brightly glaring sunlight.

Both Panasonic Lumix G6 & GF6 are good, functional and fun Micro Four Third cameras.  Depending on your personal preference and usage, either one of them will serve your needs.  Although the price has not been announced,  I suspect the price for these new camera systems will be competitive and affordable.

Shooting in Bali with Panasonic Lumix G6 & GF6

We had a chance to try out the pre-production units of these new cameras in Bali so we were not able to review the image quality. We also had our hands on the new LUMIX G VARIO 14-140mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (H-FS14140) standard zoom lens which I love it for the wide range it has and image stabiliser for sharper pictures. It is equivalent to a 28-280mm lens on a 35mm camera system.

Here are the unedited shots from Bali.
