Air New Zealand’s latest flight safety video features Dwarves, Orcs and Elves ahead of the December release of the final film of The Hobbit Trilogy,The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Starring in The Most Epic Safety Video ever Made are Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Dean O’Gorman (Fili the Dwarf) and Sylvester McCoy (Radagast). Directed by Kiwi filmmaker Taiki Waititi (Boy, What We Do in the Shadows) with cameos from Sir Peter Jackson (Director of The Hobbit Trilogy), Weta Workshop co-founder Sir Richard Taylor and Waititi himself, who appears as a Wizard.

 

This safety video was shot over six days across a number of New Zealand’s Middle-earth locations, including Hobbiton and Central Otago, both of which appear in The Hobbit Trilogy. Costumes and more than 150 make-up prosthetics were supplied by Weta Workshop while the visual effects were created by Weta Digital.

More than 12 million online views were generated from the airline’s first safety video which was inspired by The Hobbit films – An Unexpected Briefing (2012).

The new flight safety video will be progressively rolled out across Air New Zealand’s fleet from today.
