After being cut at Las Vegas in American Idol Season 11, Amber Holcomb with her determination had came in as fourth place in American Idol Season 12.  Amber shared her thoughts after her elimination:

Q. Can you kind of give us a feeling for when you first realized, my gosh, there are an awful lot of powerhouse females this year?
Give us a point where you started to realize how much female talent you were surrounded by this year, … at some point that some of the others just started to startle you with how good they are.

Amber: Oh, actually I knew from the beginning that all the girls were amazing. I feel like everybody was. But I’m a girl so I’m going to stand up for my girls. But we were all really good. I wasn’t startled or anything like that, I just felt like we were all five amazing girls who had the opportunity and the chance to be the next American idol.

Q. Fellow contestant, Candice Glover, who is now in the final two was upset when you were the one voted out, she really seemed upset by it. Tell us a little bit about Candice in general, what kind of person or singer she is, and a little bit about your friendship.

Amber: Candice is a phenomenal person. She was my roommate and, you know, she was so sweet. We used to talk every night and we’d wake up and talk again in the morning. She’s just like an all-around good person. And as an artist, she’s a powerhouse also. I see her on the jazzy, groovy kind of side of music and I see her going far. She’s great.

Q. Did you have a feeling that you would be going home, or were you completely surprised?

Amber: They always say an idol can feel it when it’s time, and I mean, I’m not even going to lie, I honestly did feel like I was the next to go. And I was really sad, but at the same time I told myself that I still get to go on tour, tickets are on sale today, by the way, and you know, I’ll see them again, so I was happy.

Q. The judges kept telling you over and over again that you were going to have a great career no matter what, so does it really matter that you didn’t win?

Amber: Do you know what, that’s kind of a trick question. All of us go to American Idol wanting to be the next American idol, so it’s kind of bittersweet not winning. But at the same time I have more time to work on me and focus more on me other than the competition. I feel like it’s an advantage and a disadvantage at the same time.

Q. What was going through your head during that last performance on stage?

Amber: Man, actually before the performance we watched a little package video, and that always gets to me, every single contestant. And I mean it’s just the song and then all the clips, and then it was me, and I was like, oh man, now I have to sing, and my dad was crying, and I was like, oh my gosh, I’m going home. It was just a lot.

Q. What do you think your biggest challenge was throughout the entire competition?

Amber: Oh man, my biggest challenge was probably just learning myself and learning what I want to do and what I should do, that was the biggest struggle, that was kind of hard.

Q. Where do you see yourself within the next 10 years?

Amber: Oh my gosh, in the next 10 years I see myself in magazines, on every TV channel, billboards, Grammy’s, all that good stuff.

Q. And do you plan to do any acting or anything other than singing after the tour?

Amber: … most definitely, yes. I want to be in movies, commercials, runways, magazines, like the sky is the limit pretty much.

Q. And if you could be in one TV show, which TV show would you choose to be in?

Amber: Oh, that’s a hard one. I feel like Glee is really relatable right now for me.

Q. You said you wanted to work with Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Frank Ocean, how do you see yourself fitting in, do you feel like you have to get a harder edge to your style?

Amber: Oh definitely not. I feel like my style, personally it changes depending on how I’m feeling or the mood I’m in, and I feel like right now there’s nobody like me, so why fix something that isn’t broken.
