Guangzhou has made medical history with the upcoming launch of its first-ever wholly foreign-owned tertiary general hospital. It’s all happening at the Southeast Tower of Yuesheng Plaza, right next to the bustling Baiyun High-Speed Railway station. Spearheaded by Perennial Holdings, this RMB1 billion investment marks the company’s debut in Southern China’s healthcare scene, following its successful venture in Tianjin.
The new general hospital, together with a dedicated specialist hospital, will anchor the first phase of the visionary Perennial Baiyun International Healthcare City. The 1.18 square kilometre wellness-driven precinct is designed to integrate medical, research, training, lifestyle, and residential facilities. But it’s not just about infrastructure. At the heart of these hospitals is a Singapore-modelled Shared Medical Platform, where doctors can focus on patient care without owning or operating their own facilities. Cutting-edge operating theatres, diagnostic imaging suites, and clinical labs. Everything streamlined for efficiency and scale.
This unique platform, already proven in Tianjin, empowers medical professionals to grow across Perennial’s high-speed rail transit-oriented developments (TODs), positioning Guangzhou as a key gateway for medical tourism in Asia. And with its strategic location, tapping into a population of over 100 million across the Greater Bay Area, the new hospitals are poised to become a magnet for top-tier medical talent and international collaborations.
Witnessed by government officials, diplomats, and industry leaders, the signing ceremony signalled not just the start of construction in July 2025 but the beginning of a bold new chapter in cross-border healthcare collaboration. Mr Lai Zhihong, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government, and Ms Cindy Wee, Consul-General of the Singapore Consulate-General in Guangzhou were amongst the guests at the signing ceremony.
With plans to bring in global names in precision medicine and smart health services, Perennial Holdings is set to redefine how the world views Guangzhou. Not just as a thriving metropolis, but as a premier destination for world-class healthcare, wellness, and innovation.
“We are pleased to establish the first wholly foreign-owned tertiary general hospital in Guangzhou and Southern China, as well as a specialist hospital at Guangzhou Metro’s Yuesheng Plaza. The RMB1 billion investment aligns with our strategic focus on healthcare-centric HSR TODs, which serve as enablers of our healthcare business, and marks our maiden healthcare business foray into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. We are also excited with the inking of our next milestone, with the establishment of our second wholly foreign-owned tertiary general hospital in China, following our first in Tianjin.”
Mr Pua Seck Guan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Perennial Holdings
