9 May 2011, Singapore –  “Priest”, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller, is set in an alternate world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend (Cam Gigandet who also appeared in Burlesque), a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q) who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.

Directed by Scott Stewart, starring Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Stephen Moyer & Lily Collins

What do you get when you combine “The Matrix”, “TRON: Legacy” & “Van Helsing”?  Your answer will be Priest (2011), an American supernatural dark fantasy action film, based on the Korean comic Priest by Min-Woo Hyung. This movie is pure action flick with many slow-motion martial art fight scenes, staged in a “wild west cyber” era. From the trailer, you may find the lead actor, Paul Bettany, some what familiar with that hood?  Yes, Paul is the mysterious hooded monk, Silas  from “The Da Vinci Code”. Once again in “Priest”, Paul Bettany portrays himself as a devoted Christian, who allegedly broke his sacred vow this time to save his niece from the vampires. The movie’s simple storyline makes it quite plain, so just sit back and enjoy the stunning fight scenes with some occasional scares in between. An enjoyable weekend movie for everyone. Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Priest (2011) opens in Singapore on 11 May 2011.
