Pre-orders have already begun, the details can be found here.
1. The Design
In terms of the design, there is no doubt that Samsung had nailed it and Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ can be easily crowned the best-looking smartphone to-date. The curves are sexy and it feels good in your hands. The huge 5.8″ & 6.2″ Infinity Display is big enough for your viewing pleasures but yet it feels small & slim in your hands. One hand operation is definitely not an issue for the Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+.
With Mobile HDR Premium, you will see the vivid colours and contrasts that filmmakers want you to experience, just like in the cinemas.
2. The Assistant – Bixby
Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ have a new & exclusive smart personal assistant called, Bixby. Bixby will not be at its maximum potential at launch because Bixby Voice will only be available as an update in the near future. But Bixby is still functional and has a couple of cool & smart features up its sleeves, like Bixby Vision.
Bixby Vision can be very helpful in your everyday life. The ability to snap a picture of a furniture and get suggestions of other furniture with similar designs makes it the ideal assistant for your design adventures. This will save you the trouble to find the correct keyword combinations for your Google search. Even with a bottle of wine, you can just snap and be prompted with its grades and food pairing option too. You become an instant wine connoisseur.
There are more things Bixby can do. You will have to find out yourself.
3. The AKG In-Ear Headphones
The AKG in-ear headphones may be the best in-box headphones for a smartphone. AKG is known for its great audio quality at a competitive price point. The bundled in-ear headphone is powerful and offers a well-balanced bass for the best music entertainment on the go. The headphones also come with braided cables, making it more durable and much easier to detangled than normal cables.
The AKG headphones will be priced at US$99 when sold separately. It will be using the 35mm headphone jack, so you can be sure to charge and listen to your music at the same time.
4. The Camera
Although on paper the specifications for the S8 & S8+ camera does not seem to have a big upgrade from Galaxy S7 edge, but they are actually performing much better than the S7 edge. With higher dynamic range, you will see more details and colours in your shots for both photos and videos.
If you love Snapchat face filters, in the native S8 camera app, you will have an exclusive range of face filters and it even comes with beautifying filters to make you look radiant and cute. But be warned…. expect more crazy fellows playing with the filters in public. See below….
5. The DeX Station and Other Accessories
The market is finally ready for an All-In-One smartphone that has the capability to double up as a desktop? With the powerful hardware and better office work apps available, you do not need to carry an additional laptop just to edit excel spreadsheets or powerpoint slides. All that can be done just like you do on a desktop with monitor and mouse with the new DeX Station.
Along with DeX Station, Samsung will offer a range of designer accessories that will be functional and yet looks good & stylish for your everyday routine. The Wireless Charger Convertible is so refined in terms of design and functional with two stand modes to meed your needs.
6. The Unlocking
Well the Galaxy S8 & S8+ offers FIVES ways to unlock your phone, which includes the new facial recognition that makes unlocking your phone fuss-free. It even works with spectacles and without spectacles on.
You may have seen the hacks on unlocking the device with a face photo on another smartphone. But we tried to replicate that hack and it did not work at all. In the above YouTube video, the guys tried to hack the face recognition unlock with a few other methods and it still will not work. So we believe the face recognition unlock is actually quite secure.
7. The Battery
Last year, the battery was the HOT & FIERY ISSUE for Samsung. With the launch of the new smartphones, Samsung has put in quite an amount of effort to ensure history will not repeat again. So from the above YouTube video, you can see that even after physically sawing up the battery, it only heated up but did not show any of fire. WOW… we are impressed. Since all lithium batteries are highly flammable with physical damage, so if this test is real, then Samsung has upped their game in this field.
8. The First Smartphone with Bluetooth 5.0
Samsung is the first smart device to be equipped with the latest Bluetooth 5.0. This means that the range for the wireless connection will have a much longer distance when paired with compatible devices and the data bandwidth is bigger for faster transfers. The most immediate advantage for Bluetooth 5.0 is now you can pair two sets of Bluetooth speakers or headphones simultaneously to the Galaxy S8 & S8+. Sharing music wirelessly is much easier now.
