For a six year old company, Xiaomi has definitely made history with its vast portfolio of trending technological products. It has outshined the competitions by offering these products at aggressive price points. From high performance smartphones to action cameras to 4K TVsto self balancing scooter Ninebot mini, Xiaomi has been making high end premium technology affordable for the mass consumers.
And that is a good thing for everyone. You can now be tech savvy and yet not burn a huge hole in your wallet. In the last three months, Xiaomi had expanded its product range with TV box, notebooks, drones and even Virtual Reality with Mi VR Play headset. Although some of these new products are not readily available globally, but it will make you think twice on your next BIG purchase because a cheaper and maybe even better options is coming your way.
Mi Drone
Mi Drone, Xiaomi’s very first drone is designed to be easy to operate and convenient to carry around so that most consumers will be capture stunning aerial photos & videos easily. Mi Drone comes in two variants — the 4K version retails at RMB 2,999 (about S$607), while the 1080P one is priced at RMB 2,499 (about S$507).
Mi Drone also has four layers of built-in security — real-time location tracking to allow users to retrieve the drone easily even if it has crashed, real-time computing power to enable it to return on low battery levels, automatic hovering at the edge of no-fly zones, and the use of a remote control with a PCB antenna array to avoid losing contact with the drone.
The 12-megapixel 4K camera shoots video at a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and supports recording still images in RAW format. For stable footage, the camera on Mi Drone is attached to a highly sensitive three-axis gimbal that stabilises up to 2000 vibrations per second.
Mi Drone has a modular design and foldable landing gear, enabling users to easily carry it around in a backpack.
Mi Notebook Air
Mi Notebook Air is a high-performance lightweight notebook perfect for all study, work and entertainment needs. Mi Notebook Air is manufactured by Inventec and Wistron.
The 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air comes with a NVIDIA GeForce 940MX dedicated graphics card that delivers a smooth gaming experience with stunning visuals. Coupled with a 256GB PCIe solid-state drive (SSD), Mi Notebook Air offers an incredibly fast user experience even while performing demanding tasks. On top of that, Mi Notebook Air has one free SSD slot that gives users an option to expand its storage.
Mi Notebook Air also comes with Mi Cloud Sync, a feature that allows MIUI users to access their contacts, text messages, photos and notes stored in Mi Cloud directly on Mi Notebook Air.
Mi Notebook Air is currently available on Mi.com and Mi Home stores in China at RMB 4,999 (about S$1,011) and RMB 3,499 (about S$708).

Mi VR Play is an entry-level product that seeks to bring the VR experience to a much wider audience. By opening up an exciting new way for you to experience your smartphones.
Mi VR Play has significantly improved upon the design typically used in similar VR products — it is wrapped in lightweight, durable Lycra for long-lasting comfort. In the future, Mi VR Play will also be available in a selection of bold prints and colours for even more stylish options. The unique two-way zipper helps to ensure compatibility, providing a secure grip on a wide range of 4.7- to 5.7-inch smartphones. At the same time, the dual openings on the front allow for slight positioning adjustments and ventilation.

The Mi VR app isan open platform incorporating an extensive library of content from partners. Right now, the app comes with content from partners including Conde Nast Traveler, YouKu and Korea’s Dooribun. As more partners are brought onboard Mi VR app, introducing even more panoramic, 2D and 3D content, it is expected to drive VR content in China to a whole new level.
Mi Box
The Mi Box will comes with a rich library of content with thousands of movies, shows and games from Google Play, YouTube and other apps. Mi Box also supports 4K UHD video content playback at 60 frames per second and producing rich and vibrant audio with Dolby Digital Plus and DTS Surround Sound.
Mi Box comes with a Bluetooth remote control that supports voice search and commands. You can speak into the remote to search for content by description — try “Leonardo Dicaprio’s Oscar movie” to find exactly the right movie, or ask “who played Aragorn in Lord of the Rings” for search results.
