Dennis travelled to Austria with Scoot on a media familiarisation trip in October 2025, enjoying ScootPlus on the outbound flight and the Scoot-in-Silence experience on the return. ScootPlus guests get a few nice perks including 15 kg of cabin baggage, 30 kg of checked baggage, priority check-in and boarding, 200 MB of Wi-Fi, an in-seat power outlet, two meals, and a complimentary blanket to bring home.
One thing to note, Scoot aircraft does not have built-in in-flight entertainment. What to do in Vienna

Vienna, renowned as the birthplace of classical music legends such as Mozart and Strauss, is a city that harmoniously blends its majestic architectural splendour with a rich cultural heritage. Its timeless artistic allure is complemented by its strategic location at the heart of Europe, making it an ideal gateway to Eastern Europe. Just 50 kilometres from Vienna Airport lies Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, while other major cities like Budapest in Hungary, Prague in Czechia, Zagreb in Croatia, and Ljubljana in Slovenia are all within a three-hour drive, offering travellers an abundance of exploration opportunities.
Vienna will celebrate the 200th birthday of waltz king Johann Straus with a year-long birthday party in 2025. The first night of every week in 2025 will feature 10 different genres, indoor and outdoor in locations all over 23 districts of the city.
Vienna’s Votive Church transforms into a celestial canvas during The Light of Creation, a 30-minute light and sound spectacle inspired by the story of Genesis. Across six acts, stunning projections illuminate the church’s neo-Gothic interior, from the birth of light to the flourishing of life, accompanied by an original musical score. Tickets start from USD 31.65 for adults and USD 25.79 for children aged 6 to 17 or students 18 to 25 with valid ID, available on Klook.
The State Hall (Prunksaal) of the Austrian National Library in Vienna was built between 1723 and 1726 under Emperor Charles VI and designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. The grand Baroque library stretches nearly 80 metres with a 20-metre-high dome. Its magnificent ceiling fresco by Daniel Gran glorifies the emperor and the library’s founding, while marble statues, ornate woodwork and gilded details enhance the opulent interior. Housing around 200,000 volumes, including Prince Eugene of Savoy’s 15,000-book collection, the hall remains one of Europe’s most beautiful historic libraries and continues to be carefully preserved through ongoing restorations.
From mid-November to late December 2025, Austria offers enchanting Christmas markets across its cities, towns, lakeside hamlets, and medieval fortresses. While Vienna and Salzburg are the most famous, these festive markets can be found throughout the country, creating a magical holiday experience.

The Hotel Alstadt, part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, encourages guests to explore the artistic spirit of the Altstadt Vienna. The property first began as a small 24 room art gallery hotel created by founder Otto Ernst Wiesenthal. Over tim-e, it has evolved into a unique space where contemporary art is integrated into the hotel experience rather than simply displayed on walls.

The Altstadt Vienna’s impressive collection features works from notable artists such as Warhol, Brigitte Kowanz, Prachensky, Leibowitz, Attersee and Helnwein. Some pieces are from major museums while others come from Wiesenthal’s personal collection, but they all share a common purpose, to inspire, spark reflection and invite curiosity. Today, this boutique hotel has more than 60 rooms and around 300 artworks for guests to encounter as they wander through the property.

A Perfect Side Trip: Vienna to Linz

Linz is Austria’s third-largest city, located on the banks of the Danube in the northern region of Upper Austria. While once known primarily for its industrial strength, the city has undergone a stylish transformation and now fuses historic architecture, riverfront charm and modern creativity. You’ll find the grand Hauptplatz (main square) surrounded by Renaissance and Baroque-style buildings, serving as a pleasant gateway into the compact Old Town.
Culture and ease of access make Linz a rewarding side-trip from Vienna. After being designated a European Capital of Culture in 2009, the city embraced its arts and tech identity, home to the Ars Electronica Centre (a ‘museum of the future’ on media and innovation) and the Lentos Art Museum with its striking modern façade and contemporary collection. For scenic and family-friendly sightseeing, ride the Pöstlingbergbahn (Europe’s steepest adhesion tramway) up to the hilltop church on Pöstlingberg for sweeping views of the city and the Danube. If you’re catching the train from Vienna, it takes around 1 hour 15 minutes by high-speed service, making Linz very feasible even as a half-day excursion.
Exploring Wachau Valley and Melk

Step aboard one of the nine red and white DDSG vessels and enjoy a scenic journey through the UNESCO listed Wachau Valley, a relaxing sightseeing trip along the Danube Canal in Vienna, or an evening cruise filled with entertainment and dining. Themes range from ABBA nights and Viennese Heurigen experiences to Austropop, Schlager, sunset sails and family-friendly brunch outings.

Our cruise took us from Spitz to Melk, where we enjoyed a local meal followed by a guided tour of Melk Abbey, one of the most remarkable Baroque sites in Europe. This Benedictine monastery is a symbol of cultural and spiritual heritage, celebrated for its magnificent architecture, famous library, and sweeping views over the Wachau Valley.
