Countdown at Vivocity with Mediacorp

VivoCity will host one of Singapore’s most entertaining New Year’s Eve countdown event with MediaCorp Channel 8 for the fourth consecutive year to welcome 2012.  To be held at the Amphitheatre on Level 3 on 31 December 2011 from 11pm to 1230am, the ‘Live’ “MediaCorp Channel 8 Countdown” programme will be hosted by local personalities Dasmond Koh, Pornsak and Lee Teng.

You can expect performances by local favourites and emerging singes including Tay Ping Hui, Qi Yuwu, Joanne Peh, Eelyn Kok, Pan Ling Ling, MayPhua, Priscelia Chan, Kym Ng, Julie Tan, Desmond Tan, Tay KeWei and Jonathan Leong.  Malaysian singer Wu Jia Hui and violinit Lai Yi Xuan will also be making a special appearance.

There will also be interviews with some of the artistes from the cast of Channel 8’s musical drama “A Song To Remember”.  There will also be a preview of MediaCorp’s Raintree Pictures’ family movie “Dance Dance Dragon” which opens in cinemas here in January 2012.

If you don’t already have tickets to the event, you can also enjoy the simultaneous ‘live’ screening of the show at the spacious Sky Park on level 3 of Vivocity.

New Years Day BASE Jumpers Stunt Show At Marina Bay Sands

Seven professional BASE jumpers from different parts of the world will will participate in this adrenaline pumping display to welcome the New Year from the Observation Deck of the Sands Sky Park in quick succession and land on the Bayfront Bridge.

These jumpers have completed around 8,000 successful jumps in total.  BASE jumping is an extreme sport activity that employs an initially packed parachute to jump from fixed objects, specifically buildings, antennas, spans (bridges) and earth (cliffs).

This event is free and open to all ages.  There are a number of vantage points on Marina Bay Sands for you to enjoy the stunt including the section of Bayfront Avenue in between the hotel and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands as well as the outdoor area located on Level 4 of the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

The BASE Jumping Stunt Team

Omer Mei-Dan – Orthopedic surgeon from Israel and an extreme sports enthusiast who is also a professional BASE jumper.   Omer also successfully executed the world’s first climbing race on a building facade to mark Marina Bay Sands’ opening celebrations last year on 23 June.  Omer set up the team and the stunt.

Jeb Corliss – This professional BASE jumper and wing-suit pilot has over 12 years of experience and over 1,000 BASE jumps under the belt. Corliss has launched himself off famous structures including Jin Moa Tower in Shanghai, The Petronas Towers in Malaysia and Ostankino Tower in Mosow.

Temporary Stoppage of Traffic along Bayfront Avenue

To facilitate two practice jumps on 30 and 31 December before the final stunt of 1 January 2012, there will be road closures. Subject to proper weather conditions, the roads may be closed during one of the time frames.

  • Friday 30 December 2011: 4pm – 410pm
  • Saturday 31 December 2011 (Only 1 jump): 830am -840am OR 4pm – 410pm
  • Sunday 1 January 2012 (Only 1 jump): 830am – 840am OR 4pm – 410pm
Marina Bay Sands BASE jumping Display road closures

Affected areas include the section of Bayfront Bridge at the junction of Bayfront Bridge and Raffles Avenue, until the ERP gantry on Bayfront Bridge.  Ancillary Police Officers will be deployed for crowd and traffic control during these periods.
