17 January 2012, Singapore – Japan Airlines (JAL) plans to impose a fuel surcharge on its international flights for tickets issued between 1 April 2012 and 31 May 2012. This is subject to approval by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).

This surcharge is imposed because of the higher exchange rate of the Japanese Yen last year.

It’s method of calculation is based on the 2-month average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel. This average between the months of December 2011 to January 2012 is US$124.92 per barrel.
