15 March 2013, Singapore – Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb will debut in Singapore’s ArtScience Museum from 27 April 2013 showcasing the secrets of the Egyptian burial and mummification process.    Mummies and artifacts are paired from the collection of the British Museum with a 3D film experience.

The main exhibit is Nesperennub, a temple priest who lived 3,000 years ago and died at about 40 years of age.  A 3D film captures the ‘virtual unwrapping’ of the Egyptian mummy and is displayed in concert with Nesperennub.   The film is narrated by actor Patrick Stewart and unveils the story of the priest’s life and death, complete with a digital reconstruction of his facial structure.

More than 100 artifacts and six mummies will be displayed.  Highlights include a statuette of the Egyption God Amun-Ra in bronze from 664-305 BC as well as a figurine of the god Seth dating back to 1295-1069 BC.   One of the mummies on display will be Tjayasetimu, a singer in the temple of Amun who died when she was still a child around 800BC.

The exhibition will be engaging with hands-on opportunities for visitors including an interactive Embalming Workshop that sheds light on the various steps and rituals involved in embalming, mummification and cartonnage.

Tickets go on sale from 1 April 2013
