It is All In The Details at SO Sofitel Singapore

In May 2015, I booked a So Cosy room at close to S$400 and checked into Sofitel So Singapore for a night. With the Le Club Accorhotels Platinum status, the room was upgraded to So Urban rooms which came with a nice bathtub to soak in and an additional 16sqm of space.

So the Parisian apartment-inspired room I eventually checked into was #331 located on level three in the So Heritage Wing. The actual space around the bed and working desk was probably the same as the So Cosy room with an additional walkway and the separate toilet and bathroom almost taking up the other half of the room.

The long walkway from the entrance of the room leading to the bedroom was necessary because of the toilet, bathroom and wardrobe cupboard.

The bathroom is impressive. Separating the bathtub and the separate shower room is a wash basin. I wasn’t too sure why the curtains to the bathroom are in the bedroom instead of the bathroom side.

I liked the wooden flooring in the room just because it is a personal preference over carpeted rooms.

This view of the room overlooks the bed, television, refreshment cabinet and a working desk with a window view of Robinson Road.

The bedroom has an impressive three-metre high ceiling. If you lie on the bed and look up at the lighted and painted ceiling, it is as if you were looking into a dome of a huge building giving an expansive feeling.

A contemporary interpretation of the Orchid, Singapore’s national flower is positioned on the headboard of the bed. Always nice to have some local touches in a hotel room.

Technology in The Room

Hotel technology helps make you stay more comfortable and it is becoming more so these days. Here at Sofitel So Singapore, iPad minis are available in the room that lets you control the lighting and mood in your room. It also controls the air conditioning and curtains. Your iPad is your master switch and you can request to make up room through it.

Sofitel So Singapore - iPhone to Call for Room Service
iPhone to Call for Room Service and Unlimited Local Calls

The iPhone in your room is the only smartphone you need. It offers unlimited local calls, and your device for room service. Unfortunately for me, it did not work until I brought it to the lobby to ask for help, then it worked there. After bringing it back up to my room, it did not work again. Just my luck, I guess.

Television Remote

Now that’s a long one, that’s what she said. This television remote is so easy to use. Not cluttered with too many buttons that obfuscate most people, this television remote is every non tech geek’s magic wand.

The option to order room service was available through the television but I was told during my stay that this has not been available for a while as the hotel was upgrading the system. It would have been a fabulous system of ordering the food or drink since they were visually appealing.

Ample electrical points in the room

A good hotel room to me is one with many power sockets to charge the many electrical devices we carry around these days.

Sofitel So Singapore has thought this through and provided a socket that accepts devices from any part of the world. There is no need for any adapters here.

In the Bathroom

Everything is very Okay in the bathroom. The bathroom is spacious with a rather inviting bathtub. Once again, design takes over this part of the room. I was tickled by the clothes hooks in the toilet. It was not ordinary. Instead hands came out from the walls as if it was a scene from a horror movie. It did take  me a while to realise they were meant to hang my towel or clothing. Cheeky…

Verdict

There’s nothing not to like here. Maybe the rooms might be a tad bit too small. But the details in the room and hotel design will just keep you amused and entertained. I absolutely love the decor.

I will come back again but probably book a room during the AccorHotels Super Sale and not pay a peak premium rate for my stay here.

Hopefully the next time I stay here, the in-room dining menu in the television as well as the in room iPhone would work.
