Freeing SG is a 5D reality escape room game centre located at Bugis+ that will be a new & popular hangout for Mystery & Thrill seeking fans in Singapore. Adopted from the popular “Freeing HK” game centre in Hong Kong, Freeing SG is set to make players rack their brains solve clues and find hidden codes to aid them in escaping a “locked” chamber in a given time.
Each time a team of four to eight players will be given limited resources and injected with a unique scenario for each room. The team has to work together and figure out a way to escape the chamber. Inspired by popular escape room video and mobile games, Freeing SG extends the same mystery and thrill with immersive and physical experience to the players. Are you the next Sherlock Holmes?
VERDICT
The rooms are of decent size and can comfortably accommodate eight players. Players are issued with a set of documents which states the scenario and clues for the room, but one set to share with among all players is just too time wasting, cumblesome and frustrating at times. We only have 45 minutes to solve the mystery and I think we deserve a few more copies for the price we pay.
The furniture still looks brand new & fresh, although they are deliberately vandalised with paint. The ambiance in the rooms can be improved with more detailed, aged & rustic decor and some sound effects or background sounds and music to set in the mood. The puzzles and clues are decently difficult to solve but it is achievable in the time frame. If your team cannot get those puzzles solved, it is probably due to the lack of a leader and team spirit to consolidate the clues and solving it as a team.
Overall I would recommend it as a great team bonding game if you are going with friends or colleagues. If you are going into the rooms with random patrons, someone must be able to voice out and be the leader of the pack to take control of all the information and clues in order to escape the rooms. I will definitely want to go back to try out the rest of the rooms with my friends though the price is not as competitive to attract the mass audience.
Freeing SG currently offers a lineup of four unique escape rooms and it will be gradually expanded to ten rooms by the end of October 2013. The rooms will be refreshed with new themes and stories periodically. The price of each game starts from S$20 per person and operating hours are from 11am to 1am daily.
