It was a night of highs that’s going to be a tough act to encore. FIDe Fashion Weeks 2013, ongoing at Marina Bay Sands Expo (Hall F), on Monday saw the inauguration of the Asian Couture Federation set up to elevate regional fashion designers on a global platform. Asia’s leading fashion entrepreneurs, commentators, authorities will direct the mission of the federation.

“To formally promote and develop the creativity of the exceptional fashion talents from this region,” explained ACF’s vice-president.

The milestone inauguration was marked with a gala dinner in the magnificent crystal ballroom dripping with chandeliers and candlelabra. No sooner had our knives slid into the exquisite mignon of beef as if it was butter, up went the lights for another landmark moment.

Dr Frank Cintamani, the maestro behind FIDe, stepped up to be pinned. By no less than the French Ambassador to Singapore. To be conferred the Ordres des Arts et Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters), an order from France’s Minister of Culture for advancing arts and literature.

After the applause, guests got a bit hot under their black tie collars as the aircon had to be turned off. Not only the air was still, but so too dinner service, and guests, in respect of Miss Miyoko Shida’s, dancer choreographer, balancing act. Her beauty, harmony, grace can only be described as mesmerising and breath-taking. (Do check Miyoko Shida’s performance on youtube.)

Just before the sweets, the most tantalising beats announced the entry of Senor Rafael Amargo. Clearly the heir apparent to his fellow countryman Joaquin Cortes, the most beautiful flamenco dancer thus far, Amargo killed with his dance. Jarvier Bardem, sleep uneasy if Amargo ever gets to Hollywood. And to take the high night to its close, Stephane Rolland, the French couturier whose designs are architecture and sculpture in motion.

Oh what a night. And it’s ongoing until 19th Oct.
