Fitbit has unveiled the Charge 5, its most advanced health and fitness tracker. Compared to the Charge 4, this version comes in a thinner (10% less), sleek design with a brighter (two-times brighter), colour touchscreen and up to seven days of battery life depending on how you use it. Other features include built-in GPS, 20 exercise modes, automatic exercise recognition and an estimate of one’s VO2 max. And an always-on display option so you can see your stats when you train.

Fitbit Premium

The Fitbit Charge 5 comes with six months of Fitbit Premium. Fitbit Premium offers deeper insights, actionable guidance and over 500 workouts and mindfulness & nutrition content. Fitbit Premium’s new Daily Readiness Score will soon be available on the Charge 5 as well as Sense, Versa 3, Versa 2, Luxe and Inspire 2 devices. Understand if your body is ready for a workout or if you should prioritise recovery. You will receive a score in the morning based on fitness fatigue, heart rate variability and recent sleep. Get an analysis of what impacted the score and suggestions such as a recommended target Active Zone Minutes goal, along with Premium content to help make the best decisions for your body.

Measure Body’s Response to Stress with EDA Sensor

Charge 5 is Fitbit’s first tracker that includes an EDA sensor. This measures the body’s response to stress, through tiny changes in the sweat glands from your finger. Fitbit launched EDA last fall with Fitbit Sense and have found that 70% of users reduced their heart rate during a two-minute EDA Scan session, showing that it can help reduce stress. See your Stress Management Score in the Fitbit app in the morning and see if you are mentally ready to take on more challenges, of if you need to recharge.

ECG, SpO2 and Sleep Tool

If you are above 22 years old, you can prioritise your heart health with the ECG app to check for Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), the most common heart rhythm condition. Since its launch on the Sense, users have taken over four million assessments. This was recently made available in Singapore last month. And this will soon be available on Charge 5 in selected countries. Track your heart rate 24/7 and get notifications when it is above or below your personal ranges, so that you can get medical attention if required. Get your breathing rate, skin temperature variation and SpO2 from the Health Metrics dashboard in the Fitbit app.

The feature I like about the Fitbit health & fitness tracker is the Sleep Tool. It gives you insights such as your daily sleep score, sleep stages with SmartWake alarms. Get deeper analysis and guidance if you are a Premium member.
