HP Folio 13 Ultrabook Laptop Review

5 April 2012, Singapore – This year will be the battle of the “ultrabooks” and HP has joined the battle with their new Ultrabook Folio 13.

So what is an “ultrabook”? Ultrabooks are designed to feature reduced size and weight, and extended battery life without compromising performance and startups for ultrabooks are usually in the matter of seconds.

Specifications:

  • Intel Core i5 2467M Processor (1.6GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Intel HD Graphic, with Intel Wireless Display Support
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • 128GB SSD storage
  • 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x HDMI, 1 x Ethernet port
  • Multi Format Digital Media Card Reader
  • Dolby Advanced Audio

The new HP Folio 13 Ultrabook is 18mm thick and weighing 1.5kg. It is not the thinest, lightest ultrabook in the market. But they do have some extra features that you might not find in other ultrabooks. In order to save “space” in the reduced sized chasis, most ultrabooks have limited ports for your external devices, but HP Folio 13 Ultrabook comes packed with 3.0USB, 2.0USB, HDMI, Ethernet ports with the addition of a multi format digital media card reader which is a rare gem.

The top aluminum chasis gives the laptop a rugged feel where the bottom soft touch rubber plastic makes it comfortable to hold in your hands. The screen are bright and clear, maybe a bit too glossy for my liking, but who knows, you may want to use the screen as a mirror once in awhile.

Built-in speakers performance is great, loud and clear with no problem when trying to share Youtube videos in a noisy McCafe. The HP Folio 13 Ultrabook also comes with a backlit keyboard for those who like to work in the dark.

Battery life is above average, with up to 9.5 hours of usage on a single charge, but thats the “power savers” settings. When I used it under the “HP Recommended” settings, the battery life is 5.5 hours which is still very good if you are a road warrior like me.

The HP Folio 13 Ultrabook is retailing at S$1,399 which is not too pricey for an ultrabook with a decent performance for professionals on the go.

Head on down to the HP and Discovery Channel road show on 14 & 15 April 2012 at Marina Square to experience the new HP Folio 13 Ultrabook yourself.
