The second edition of the Singapore Airlines App Challenge will kick off on 1 October this year. The theme this year is ‘SingaporeAir, A Great Way to Fly”. Participants will be provided with real-world business challenges to build a digital application to enrich the travel experience of the modern traveller. This year, Singapore Airlines has opened up the competition to both students in Singapore-based universities and polytechnics as well as non students.

Participant teams will be given access to Singapore Airlines’ application programming interfaces related to flight schedule, flight status and check-in for the first time to develop their prototype apps. Each team is allowed a maximum of four members.

Representatives from Singapore Airlines and industry partners such as Microsoft, IBM and Amadeus will mentor the participants as they develop working prototypes. Other partners and sponsors including TCS, SITA, Salesforce, RedHat, NUS Enterprise, NUS Institute of Systems Science, Deloitte, CISCO, StarHub, Singtel, Expedia and Paypal have also come on board.

Presentations and judging will be held on 8 October 2016. Teams will be evaluated based on innovation, business value, technical competency, user experience and presentation.

Singapore Airlines’ App Challenge Prizes

Student Category First Prize – A trip to Silicon Valley in the US where they will visit well-known technology companies such as Airbus, Google and IBM. The winning team may gain an internship stint with Singapore Airlines.

Open Category First Prize – Win a Singapore Airlines ticket to any destination that the airline flies to as well as cash.

Registration for the competition commences 18 July 2016 and closes 19 September 2016.
