Air China is the first Asian customer to take delivery of the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft. Air China took delivery of its first 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft on 29 September 2014 from Everett, Washington. This is the first of seven 747-8 Intercontinentals Air China has on order.
The flag carrier of the people’s Republic of China has been operating 747s since the 1980s. The 747-8 Intercontinental will bring double-digit improvements in fuel consumption and emissions over its predecessor the 747-400 It generates 30% less noise. Its interior is inspired by the 787 Dreamliner and includes a new curved upswept architecture featuring more space for comfort and personal belongings. The aircraft uses the GE Aviation’s GEnx-2B engines.
Boeing has partnered Air China since the 1970s. Air China has also ordered 15 787-9s on order and received all of its 20 777-300ERs in the last three years and is one of the largest 737 operators in China.
