AirJapan, ANA’s Low-Cost Carrier, Seeks Mid-Career Pilots – Apply Now

AirJapan is a new airline that will launch flights in February 2024 catering to the diverse needs of leisure and business travelers by offering a wide range of services and fare options, and aim to support the Japanese government’s target of attracting 60 million foreign visitors to Japan by 2030. Delivered under the concept of “Fly Thoughtful”, customers experience a new style of travel that allows passengers to freely select and customise their services, with ANA Group’s quality of full-service carrier and convenience of low-cost carrier (LCC).

In August, the airline announced launch of six times weekly flights between Narita Airport’s Terminal 1 and Bangkok from 9 February 2024. It will operate a Boeing 787-8 aircraft with 324 economy class seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.

Food, and amenities such as blankets and other merchandise are available for purchase on board. Passengers can connect to the dedicated in-flight Wi-Fi to watch the latest Hollywood movies, children’s programmes, animated cartoons and AirJapan original videos free of charge. The aircraft is not fitted with personal Inflight Entertainment Screens.

The subsidiary of Japan’s largest airline, All Nippon Airways (ANA) mainly operates charter flights and scheduled flights to Asian destinations on its Boeing 787 aircraft while ANA operates a wider network of domestic and international flights.

Air Japan will begin recruitment of mid-career pilots from 15 October to 15 November 2023 alongside recruitment for cabin crew and corporate roles. The airline is looking for candidates with a global outlook, specialised skills and a strong desire to undertake the responsibility of operating flights for both ANA and Air Japan brands.

Upon joining the company, flight crew employees will initially hold a fixed-term contract position during their training period and will transition to full-time employment upon obtaining a captain’s certificate with the ANA Group. Regular employees have a retirement age of 60 years old, after which they may continue as contract employees with annual renewals, until the age of 65.

Candidates will need to have an Air Transport Pilot Certificate, Aviation English Language Proficiency Certificate (Level 4 or above) for performance of duties and some administrative materials are available only in Japanese, Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate, Aviation Medical Certificate. Candidates also need to be a resident of Japan who can work in Japan without restrictions, have over 3 years of experience as a JET aircraft captain for Japanese airlines and a minimum of 2,500 hours of captain flight time (including 1,000 hours of captain flight time on JET aircraft).

Employment will start from March 2024 or later and main places of duty will be at Narita International Airport, Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) and other locations designated by the Company.
