CX197, a Cathay Pacific A350-900 aircraft landed in Auckland from Hong Kong for the first time today. Under the helm of Cathay Pacific Chief Pilot (Airbus) Gavin Haslemore and his fellow Kiwi Senior Captain Colin Davis, the aircraft flew over Waitematā Harbour offering New Zealanders first look of the aircraft.
The Hong Kong flag carrier has been serving New Zealand for 33 years. The A350 replaces the A340-300 on the Auckland route.
Cathay Pacific has five A350 in its fleet today and expects to take delivery of a total of 22 by the end of 2017.
Auckland is the third long-haul destination served by the A350 after Düsseldorf and Gatwick. Other cities the A350 will be deployed to include Rome and Paris in the months ahead followed by Vancouver and Tel Aviv in March next year.
