Cathay Pacific kicked off its seventh I Can Fly programme yesterday. Over 300 Form 3 to Form 6 students joined the pledging ceremony in an education experience that will offer them insights into the aviation industry as well as their personal development over the next six months.

These students will be led by Cathay pacific pilots and staff volunteers where they will learn about the various aspects of the aviation industry such as inflight services and flight operations. Aviation professionals will guide them through a range of interactive activities that will help with their self-development. Some 100 participants will be selected at the end of the programme to take part in trips to visit major overseas aviation facilities.

This programme has benefited 3,700 young people and made some significant achievements since it launched in 2003. A recent survey showed that nearly a third of I Can Fly graduates are now pursuing careers in aviation.

Now why didn’t we have this in Singapore when I was still young? I could have been in the aviation industry today.
