Diana Ross Is Godmother of Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas

The queen of Motown is about to rule the ocean. Diana Ross has been officially named godmother of Star of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International’s newest Icon Class ship launching August 2025 from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida.

This announcement blends star power with sea power in a way only Royal Caribbean can pull off.

A Tradition Fit for a Diva

As godmother, Ross will take on the honour of presiding over the ship’s official naming ceremony. This maritime tradition symbolises bestowing good fortune and safe travels upon the vessel, its crew, and the guests who’ll soon call it their vacation home.

And in true showbiz style, Ross won’t just be smashing a bottle of champagne on the hull. She’s set to perform in Star of the Seas’ cutting-edge AquaTheater, an open-air spectacle space in the futuristic AquaDome with wraparound ocean views. The private concert will be for special guests, the media, partners, and the ship’s crew.

“Having spent years creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey,” Ross shared.

A Star-Studded Vacation Experience

Star of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s follow-up to its groundbreaking ship Icon of the Seas. It’s being billed as the world’s best family vacation, combining resort luxury, island vibes, and theme park thrills across eight distinct neighbourhoods onboard.
