Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is making waves with the debut of its newest ship, Norwegian Aqua, the first in its next-generation Prima Plus class. Delivered by renowned shipbuilder Fincantieri, Norwegian Aqua made her European debut in March 2025, welcoming her first guests aboard in the port of Lisbon, Portugal.
A New Chapter at Sea
Norwegian Aqua builds on the success of the Prima Class, boasting expanded capacity, fresh design elements, and immersive experiences tailored for modern travellers. Measuring 322 metres in length and accommodating over 3,500 guests, Aqua blends elevated luxury with NCL’s signature “freestyle cruising” philosophy—offering flexible dining, diverse entertainment, and thoughtfully curated shore excursions.

Among the highlights:
- Aqua Slidecoaster: The world’s first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide at sea
- Spacious accommodations, including upgraded solo cabins and luxury suites in The Haven
- Viva Speedway, NCL’s largest racetrack yet, spanning three levels
- New Dining Experience: Sukhothai Thai specialty restaurant and Planterie offering plant based options at Indulge Food Hall.
- Sustainability upgrades, including advanced emissions reduction technologies

The inaugural voyage from Lisbon kicks off a series of Mediterranean sailings before Aqua relocates to the Caribbean for summer itineraries from Port Canaveral, Florida.
Eyes on the Horizon: Norwegian Luna

Even as Aqua begins welcoming guests, NCL is full steam ahead on the next Prima Plus-class ship, Norwegian Luna. The keel-laying ceremony took place just as Aqua was delivered, marking a symbolic start to Luna’s construction.
Scheduled for delivery in 2026, Luna will carry forward the Prima Plus vision, with enhancements based on guest feedback and operational insights from Aqua’s maiden season. The ship will also be built by Fincantieri, cementing the Italian shipbuilder’s pivotal role in NCL’s fleet evolution.
A Growing Fleet for a New Era
Norwegian Aqua and Luna form part of NCL’s wider fleet expansion strategy, with six Prima Plus-class vessels planned through 2028. As cruising bounces back globally, NCL is betting big on innovation—combining entertainment, tech, and sustainability in one sleek package.
For cruise lovers seeking novelty without compromising comfort, Norwegian Aqua is more than just a new ship—it’s a floating preview of what’s next for cruising.
