Over the next 20 years, the demand for commercial airline pilots and maintenance technicians will be the greatest in the Asia Pacific Region with approximately 40% of the global need. This is more than the demand in North America, Africa and Europe combined.
This projection is based on the 2015 Boeing Pilot & Technician Outlook, an industry forecast of aviation personnel demand. 226,000 new commercial airline pilots and 238,000 new technicians in the Asia Pacific region are expected through 2034. The outlook is closely tied to projections for new airplane deliveries around the globe. The personnel demand is closely tied to the Asia Pacific region’s demand for new commercial airplane deliveries over the next 20 years. According to Boeing’s 2015 Current Market Outlet, 14,330 new airplanes worth US$2.2T will be needed in the Asia Pacific region by 2034.
China expects 100,000 pilots and 106,000 technicians while Southeast Asia’s forecast sees 57,000 pilots and 60,000 technicians. South Asia will need 40,000 pilots and 37,000 technicians while Northeast Asia will need 17,000 pilots and 22,000 technicians. The Oceania region will need 12,000 pilots and 13,000 technicians.
