KLM “Like The Crew” App Trial
The airline also recently test piloted a “Like the Crew” app to allow customers to rate their flight as part of the airline’s ongoing effort to improve inflight service. The app which is still a working title was tested on a number of flights on the Toronto route in April and May. It uses a five-point scale allowing customers to respond to the question. KLM is now reviewing the responses with Works Council System and how best to implement the app.
Biofuel Flights to Aruba and Bonaire
From 16 May for a period of six months, the Dutch airline launched a series of transatlantic biofuel flights from Amsterdam to Aruba and Bonaire on an Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Sourced from ITAKA and supplied by SkyNRG, the biofuel reduces CO2 emissions and fuel consumption through enhanced engine performance on lighter, more efficient aircraft. The airline aims to promote more sustainable aviation. Aruba and Bonaire were selected because of they have a high sustainability agenda, aiming to be carbon neutral by 2020.
Use Your Mobile Phone and Tablets after Landing
Customers onboard KLM flights can now use their mobile phones and tablets in transmission mode after landing at their destination. Cabin crew will announce this after landing. After a six month trial, KLM has evaluated the results and offered this privilege. Portable Electronic Devices (PED) have already been allowed during all flight phases since April this year while equipment operating with an antenna had to be set to ‘flight mode’ whenever the aircraft doors are closed.
